UV Lamp Questions What is a UV Light Kit?
A UV Light is an ultraviolet lamp(s) that emits the same beneficial rays as the sun. These are the same rays make your laundry that’s hung outside feel and smell so fresh. It also kills germs, viruses, and mold spores very effectively. A properly installed light can remove 99% of these nasty bugs, while helping to keep your indoor AC coil clean . A UV light will help reduce airborne illnesses, like colds, the flu etc. One word of caution though, NEVER look directly into one of theses light while in operation, just like you wouldn’t want to look into the sun. The light emitted from these lamps is a concentrated form of the sunlight and can be very harmful to your eyes. How often do I need to change my UV bulb(s)? Mine still lights up, but the serviceman says I need to change it. Each manufacturer has specific recommendations, usually once a year, although some manufacturers specify once every two years. The lights continue to produce visible light, but stop emitting invisible UV light, and they are no longer effective in sanitizing the air. How much do the bulbs cost? They range from $70 to $140 dollars, which sounds expensive, but if you consider lost time, inconvenience, and the cost of medicines and doctors visits, the cost of a lamp is very reasonable. If you are thinking about installing a UV Light Kit, ask our estimators for a referral. They’d be happy to let you talk to a customer who has experienced the benefit of a UV Light first hand.
